Army to commemorate 62 years of the Battle of Walong

The Indian Army is commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the Battle of Walong with a month-long series of events starting on October 17, 2024, and culminating on November 14, 2024.

Historical Significance: The Battle of Walong took place during the 1962 Sino-Indian War and is remembered for the bravery of Indian troops who, despite being outnumbered and low on ammunition, successfully halted the advancing Chinese forces for 27 days.

Location: The battle occurred in the Kibithu area of Arunachal Pradesh, near the tri-junction of Namti Tr. Participants: The 11 Infantry Brigade, comprising Kumaon, Sikh, Gorkha, and Dogra regiments, played a crucial role in the defense.
