The Char Dham Yatra 2025 is set to begin on April 30, on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. The pilgrimage will start with the opening of the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples, followed by Kedarnath on May 2 and Badrinath on May 4.
About the Char Dham The Char Dham refers to four sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites in India: Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameswaram.
These sites were established by Adi Shankaracharya and are considered highly significant for spiritual seekers aiming to attain moksha (liberation).
Char Dham – The Four Holy Sites 1. Badrinath (Uttarakhand) – Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, believed to be the place where Nara-Narayana performed penance.
2. Dwarka (Gujarat) – Associated with Lord Krishna, who established his kingdom here. 3. Puri (Odisha) – Home to the Jagannath Temple, where Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Jagannath.
3. Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) – A sacred site for Lord Shiva, linked to Lord Rama’s journey in the Ramayana.
Chota Char Dham (Uttarakhand) Apart from the main Char Dham, there is also the Chota Char Dham, a pilgrimage circuit in Uttarakhand, which includes:
• Yamunotri – Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. • Gangotri – The origin of the Ganges River, dedicated to Goddess Ganga.
• Kedarnath – A revered Shiva temple, part of the 12 Jyotirlingas. • Badrinath – Also part of the main Char Dham.
