Green Hydrogen Certification scheme

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, has launched India's Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme (GHCI), a major step toward ensuring transparency, traceability, and market credibility in green hydrogen production.

Key Highlights of the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme 

 • Objective: Establish a robust framework for certifying green hydrogen production.

• Certification Process:

 Green hydrogen producers must undergo verification to ensure their hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources.

• Economic Impact: Agreements have been signed to export 4.12 lakh tonnes of green hydrogen derivatives to Japan and Singapore.

• Government Support:

 The scheme aligns with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in January 2023, with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore up to FY 2029–30.

About the Green Hydrogen Green Hydrogen is hydrogen produced using renewable energy sources, making it a clean and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels

Unlike gray hydrogen, which is derived from natural gas and emits carbon dioxide, green hydrogen is generated through electrolysis, where water is split into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from solar, wind, or hydro power.
