Haryana has become the first state in India to implement Dalit sub-quotas.
Sub-Classification: The Scheduled Caste (SC) community in Haryana has been divided into two categories: Deprived Scheduled Castes (DSC) and Other Scheduled Castes (OSC).
Deprived Scheduled Castes (DSC): This category includes 36 groups such as Balmikis, Dhanaks, Mazhabi Sikhs, and Khatiks.
Other Scheduled Castes (OSC): This category includes groups such as Chamar, Jatia Chamar, Rehgar, Raigar, Ramdasi, Ravidasi, and Jatav.
Quota Distribution: Each of the two categories will receive 50% of the 20% SC quota in government jobs and educational institutions.
Supreme Court Ruling: The decision follows the Supreme Court's August 2023 ruling, which empowered states to sub-categorize SCs and STs for preferential reservations.
