Karnataka’s Akka Cafes

Karnataka's Akka Cafes initiative is a government-led project aimed at boosting rural women's entrepreneurship.

Objective: The initiative aims to empower rural women by providing them with opportunities to run their own cafes, promoting financial independence and skill development.

Funding: The state government has allocated nearly ₹25 crore to the project, which will be implemented by the National Livelihood Mission-Karnataka (NLM).

First Cafe: The first Akka Cafe was launched in Gandhi Nagar, Bengaluru, on International Women's Day, March 8, 2024.

Expansion Plans: The project plans to establish over 200 cafes across Karnataka, focusing on skill development and financial independence for women. 

Support: Women in self-help groups are trained to run successful businesses, leveraging their culinary skills.
