Kaziranga National Park: India's second butterfly diversity hub

Kaziranga National Park in Assam has emerged as India's second-largest butterfly diversity hub, with over 446 recorded species.

This remarkable discovery places Kaziranga just behind Namdapha National Park in Arunachal Pradesh.

Butterfly Conservation Meet-2024: The first-ever Butterfly Conservation Meet was held from September 27 to 29, 2024, attracting around 40 butterfly enthusiasts from across India.

New Species: Among the recorded species, 18 are new records for India.

Conservation Efforts: The discovery has highlighted the importance of butterflies in Kaziranga's conservation priorities, alongside its iconic "Big Five" – the Bengal tiger, Indian rhinoceros, Asian elephant, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer.
