About the Indian Coast Guard
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is a maritime law enforcement and search and rescue agency under the Ministry of Defence.
Establishment: Formed on August 18, 1978.
Mission: To protect India's maritime interests and enforce maritime law, with jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India, including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Force Level: The ICG has a fleet of over 150 ships and 62 aircraft.
Training: The ICG Academy in Chennai provides training for its personnel.
