SCO Summit 2024

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2024 is currently being held in Islamabad, Pakistan, from October 15-16, 2024.

Host: Pakistan is hosting the summit for the first time.

Key Issues: Discussions are focusing on regional security, economic cooperation, and combating terrorism.

India's Participation: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended the summit and signed eight outcome documents focusing on connectivity and trade.

Significance: This summit is seen as a platform for fostering regional stability and enhancing multilateral cooperation.

About the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organization, created in 2001.

Members: The SCO consists of ten member states: China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Belarus.

India and Pakistan had joined the bloc in 2017. With Iran and Belarus joining the SCO in 2023 and 2024, the bloc presently comprises 10 members.

Objectives: The organization aims to maintain peace, security, and stability in the region, as well as to foster economic development and cultural exchange. Structure: The SCO has a charter that outlines its goals, principles, structure, and core activities.

The official languages are Russian and Chinese. The headquarters of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is located in Beijing, China.
